Shading device and sun angle
Shading devices are mainly being used to shade the fenestration surfaces (openings with windows) which have higher transfer of heat per area. We did a simulation here to explain how the sun angle change along the day from 10am till 5pm and how the shading devices perform throughout the day (note that different day and month of the year will yield different results).

The corner unit myth for privacy and risk
The new slab block which is available in Singapore has changed since. Other than the main door which need to be connected to the corridor, only yard and openings for the bathroom will be facing the corridor, but at either a distance or with vertical fins to shield it off. With the new arrangement, the issue of lack of privacy has almost close to being eliminated.
In the old blocks, corridors were ventilated at 1 side via permanent openings which bring in light as well. In the new slab blocks, multiple permanent openings were designed to allow cross ventilation and light source to the corridor space. With the new arrangement, end of the corridor where the corner units are located usually have a permanent opening to allow cross ventilation and light source. Depending on the location of the tail end of the corridor, strong wind may cause massive water ponding as a result of excessive rain water splashing. In the sales and purchase plan, buyers will not know for sure if the developer will design a system to allow excess water to disperse or even having a deep enough hood to shade the area from heavy down pour.
